Popular poet and Communist Senator Pablo Neruda opposes the administration of President Gabriel González Videla and denounces his brutal anti-communist repression in a speech in the National Congress in 1948. Threatened with arrest by the detective Oscar Peluchonneau, he goes underground with his wife. Refusing to live the life of a fugitive, Neruda begins writing “Canto general” and becomes a symbol of freedom and a legendary figure. (www.filmaffinity.com)
