Since 2010, the Grand Rapids Latin American Film Festival (GRLAFF) has been bringing many award-winning independent films by Latin American film directors to the Wealthy Theatre. One dimension of the mission of GRLAFF is to provide a free, public cultural forum that engages community in greater Grand Rapids and West Michigan. In addition, GRLAFF is a collaborative effort that works with educational institutions and community organizations to celebrate diversity and promote understanding. GRLAFF strives to present a variety of perspectives from Latin America to reflect the range of people comprising the local Latino community.
As part of the Festival programming, each year GRLAFF invites filmmakers and local speakers to dialogue with the audience, giving members of our community a chance to ask questions, to learn about the inspiration and history of the films, and to connect the films to their own experience.
The GRLAFF audience has nearly quadrupled from about 400 attendees the first year to nearly 1,600 during the most recent festival. The next Festival will take place April 5-7, 2019, and the event organizers anticipate even greater attendance, not only by those who are connected to the films through language, culture or heritage but also by anyone who appreciates Latin American culture and global cinema.
We kindly invite local organizations, institutions, and businesses to support the Grand Rapids Latin American Film Festival. Your tax-deductible contribution can be in cash or its equivalent in goods or services, and your organization or business will be recognized on GRLAFF's promotional materials.
